Why do I have a difference between my total tCO2e (export "All data") and the total in my BEGES / GHG export?
Why do I have a difference between my total tCO2e (export "All data") and the total in my BEGES / GHG export?

Explanation of the difference in total emissions between the regulatory format export (BEGES/GHG) and the export of all data.

In the tool, you have the option to permanently view the total of tCO2e for your project. This total will be found in the export "All data" of your collection.

The tool also offers you the option to perform a BEGES or GHG Protocol export of your project, which will give you a total of tCO2e.

These totals are often slightly different: don't panic, it's normal!

Indeed, for many emission factors from ADEME, they are broken down into different categories (combustion, downstream, upstream ...).
These are rounded in the tool because ADEME rounds its own emission factors.
However, this is not the case in your BEGES export, which explains why the total is different!

Example of an EF: Coal briquettes

Value of the EF (present in the tool and in the export of all your data) = 0.376
Breakdown (BEGES or GHG Protocol export) = 0.345 + 0.0305 = 0.3755
There is a difference between the EF values and the sum of the broken-down values.

Toovalu Impact provides you with the EF values from the footprint database without any modifications, so we cannot correct these rounding issues.

Nevertheless, these totals between your exports should be of the same order of magnitude: if not, it may indicate an error in the settings!
Depending on the projects, the variation of total tCO2e may be different, but beyond a 5% discrepancy, it is probably a settings error.

In conclusion, a different total does not mean that there is an error in your project. We advise you to express this difference as a percentage to know the variation between the different exports. This will give you a more precise idea of whether the rounding of the EFs is the cause or not.
