Here are some explanations for configuring an action.
Let’s start with the essentials.
An action in a low-carbon strategy is a set of operations carried out between a reference year and a due year to modify and reduce certain GHG emissions of the organization. To define it in Toovalu Impact, you need to fill in at least:
The name of the action: a simple and explicit phrase to characterize the action or the set of operations. (Ex: Implement an additional weekly telework day)
The reference year: The year from which the action begins, meaning the GHG emissions associated will serve as the basis for the projection.
The due year: The year set for the end of this action, meaning the target vision of the action will be achieved.
Impact : Defines the reductions and/or increases in greenhouse gas emissions caused by the implementation of the action. Note that an action can lead to an increase in certain GHG emissions and the reduction of others. To define the impact, it is necessary to select the relevant data (Ex: Electricity consumption related to telework increased by 100%, Commute reduced by 12.5%)
To go further, towards the management of the action plan, we recommend providing, according to your needs for strategic or validated actions:
Ambition : operational objective you wish to achieve through the implementation of this action (Ex: 2 days teleworked weekly)
Category of the action: allows you to classify and more easily find your action
Reference indicator: allows you to track our progress against the fixed objective/ambition
Entities concerned: to refine the action plan by specifying the entities involved in the implementation of the action
Commentaire : ici, c'est open bar ! Comment: we recommend that you include as many elements as possible that promote transparency, robustness, and replicability of your action. You can for example include the hypotheses used, the status of the action (brainstorming, validated, to be validated, engaged, etc.), the person in charge, etc.
To understand the remaining information that you don’t have to provide:
Value of the reference year: corresponds to the value of the data entered for the reference year campaign
Link between percentage of increase or decrease and target value : when a percentage of increase or decrease is entered, the target value for the due year is calculated automatically.
Need to project yourself? Here is a complete example!
Let’s take the case of implementing an additional telework day for 50% of employees in a given entity (Toovalu - technical team), by 2023 compared to 2021. We will assume that in 2021, the number of telework days for the technical team was 1 day per week.
Calculation hypothesis: We assume a 100% increase in GHG emissions related to electricity consumption for the concerned employees, as they move from 1 to 2 days of telework. Half of the team is involved, so the % increase is 50%. For the reduction of commutes, the concerned individuals go from 4 to 3 days, thus a reduction of 25%. As half of the team is involved, we have 12.5%.
